OSHA Updates its Hazard Communication Standard
By Olivia Wann
OSHA updated the criteria for several health and physical hazard classes to provide better information to employees. A major change involves health hazards with updated skin corrosion/irritation and serious eye damage/eye irritation chapters.
Label elements were updated for the new and revised hazard classes and categories.
Safety data sheets (SDS) updated sections 2, 3, 9 and 11.
Although the standard was effectively updated July 19, 2024, the label and SDS updates take effect 18 months after the effective date. The Updated labels, hazard communication program and training takes place July 29, 2026.
