OSHA’s New Pictogram Labels

OSHA’s New Pictogram Labels Image

As we move into the new year and implement our goals for our practices, don’t forget OSHA’s new requirements.

OSHA updated the requirements for labeling of hazardous chemicals under its Hazard Communication Standard. As of June 1, 2015, all labels will be required to have pictograms, a signal word, hazard and precautionary statements, the product identifier, and supplier identification.  Please see the picture provided.

According to our findings, common items to label in a dental office include high level disinfectant bins, ultrasonic tanks, amalgam capsule containers, alcohol containers, acrylic, COE cleaner, dental stone, fixer/developer, sodium hypochlorite, and others.

Don’t forget to update your Safety Data Sheets.  The newly revised format contains 16-sections. This will give you an indication which sheets must be replaced in your collection.  Add the Chemical Inventory to correspond to your products and detail the hazardous chemicals. If you are inspected by OSHA, the inspector will ask for your book.

We make process easy with an online tool which generates sheets and inventories on the fly.

Compliance is not optional.  Schedule time to complete this project or contact our office and allow one of our consultants to label your containers for you during a site visit.

Safety makes sense.
