Threat-Actors and Online Banking – How to Be Careful

Threat-Actors and Online Banking – How to Be Careful Image

By Olivia Wann, JD

Are you aware the FBI warned of search engine ads when you search for your bank online?

When you search for your bank online, a search engine advertisement may pop up to promote websites distributing ransomware or stealing login credentials.

Evidently the threat-actors impersonate banks. The ads look legitimate and appear at the top of the search result, and the page may look identical to your bank’s official webpage.

The threat-actors display a legitimate URL but you end up redirected to a cloned site under their control. If your screen locks up asking you to input credentials or to visit a site or contact a phone number, call your IT provider immediately! Do not turn off the computer. Do not hit ctrl-alt-delete.
